Before I say anything, I must thank my husband for being very patient with my photography obsession. We will be driving down the road and I'll say "Look! There's a butterfly." And next thing you know he's pulled over and I'm trying to sneak up as close as I can to it with my camera. So I say thank you to him and any other friend that has put up with me and my camera. :)
I chose to open my first online galleries with some abstract art rather than photography because I felt that it captured more of my personality as an artist. You will notice that both galleries are very dark. Black is my favorite color and I enjoy using it to make other colors stand out. Why two galleries at once? The second gallery, Butterfly Reflections, is simply reflected images from the first gallery, with the exception of one butterfly. This gallery appeals to the mathematical side of me that enjoys drawing and creating things that are geometrical. I also love the unique shapes that form where the reflections meet each other.
The first gallery, Butterfly Garden, is a series of digital art prints that I created from a mixture of photographs which I have taken. Butterflies and flowers are two of my favorite things to take pictures of. I love the amazing variety and colors found in them. To me, they capture one of God's many attributes: His creative extravagance. He could have created only a handful of colors and varieties, but instead He created thousands upon thousands of them! I can't begin to imagine what heaven will be like! In a different way, the second gallery also displays more attribute of God's character: order, design and structure. Everywhere you look in nature there are patterns and designs. These are God's fingerprints on His creations. For the math geeks out there, look up things such as the Fibonacci Sequence in nature and be amazed at what our extravagant God has done!
I hope that these galleries and future ones help others to enjoy the creation that God has given to us as a gift. I believe that through His creation we can learn more about Him.
"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for Him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of Your hands; You put everything under his feet..." Psalm 8:3-6
